Hint: Use quality ingredients if you are going to have hot dogs. Select higher end traditional pork, all-beef, chicken or vegetarian wieners.
Remember: Use fresh buns! Cradle your gourmet hot dogs in fluffy white, whole wheat, sesame or poppy seed buns, it really does make a difference. Or try a substitute with Kaiser subs or a gluten-free variation bun.
Cooking
There are a variety of methods to cook hot dogs but we are going to recommend the following 2 ways to cook hot dogs because we feel they are the best for flavour.
Oven Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
- Place the hot dogs on a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast for 10 to 20 minutes or until hot dogs are heated through to 160°F (71°C).
Grill Method
- If using a gas grill, preheat the grill to its hottest setting for at least 30 minutes.
- Just before tossing on the hot dogs, lower the heat to medium (about 400°F/205°C).
- Grill the hot dogs for 3 to 4 minutes until charred but not blackened.
- Flip and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes.
- If using a charcoal grill, heat the charcoal for 30 to 45 minutes or until the coals ash over.
- Spread the coals over the bottom of the grill.
- Grill the hot dogs for 3 to 4 minutes, until charred but not blackened.
- Flip and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes.
As you will not need any other condiment, once the hot dogs are in their buns, cover the hot dog with your favorite ZEG sauce.
These will be the best hot dogs you will ever have, just don’t eat too many!
