Would a bacon sandwich by any other name still taste great?

Well, you don’t have to be Shakespeare to figure out that bacon sandwiches can have many different names and forms around the world but they are all still delicious bacon sandwiches!

The bacon sandwich is known in Great Britain and New Zealand as a bacon butty, bacon bap, or bacon sarnie.

In Ireland, the bacon sandwich is also known as a rasher sandwich.

In Australia, it is known as a bacon sandi.

The general consensus to meet the official bacon sandwich standard consists of cooked bacon between bread that is spread with butter and seasoned with ketchup or brown sauce aka ZEG Sauce (shameless plug).

It is usually served hot on toasted bread or Kaiser rolls.

This simple standard bacon sandwich has now evolved into over 700 variants of the sandwich due to different cooking styles, types of bacon, breads, oils, and special additions.

In a study conducted at Leeds University, the best bacon sandwiches are made with “crispy, fried, and not-too-fat bacon between thick slices of white bread.”

Another study by the Direct Line for Business, noted the most popular additions to the traditional bacon sandwich were eggs, mushrooms, and then cheeses.

As for the preferred sauces to put on the bacon sandwich, brown sauce was slightly favoured over ketchup (ZEG Sauces plug again).

One of the most popular variants of the bacon sandwich is the well-known BLT which adds the ingredients of lettuce and tomato and is served cold.

Another popular variant (especially in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is the peameal bacon sandwich.

These bacon sandwiches are usually served on a soft Kaiser bun and are considered the unofficial dish of Toronto.

So, it can be stated emphatically that the bacon sandwich will always remain a bacon sandwich, no matter what you call it or add to it, the end result is sensational sandwich flavour!
