Hint: Pork shoulder is ideal for pulling purposes. It has an optimum fat content that creates tender, melty meat but it’s essential you cook it slowly to allow the protein to break down properly.

Remember: Pulled pork is great as a leftover to pile on a baked potato, chopped salad, nachos, taquitos or tacos, and poutine.

Cooking

  1. Place 2 chopped onions on the bottom of your slow cooker.
  1. Rub your favourite ZEG Sauces all over the pork roast.
  1. Place the pork roast on top of the onions then pour in 1/4 cup pineapple juice.
  1. Cook on low for 6-8 hours until the pork roast is fork tender and shreds easily.
  1. Remove the pork from the slow cooker to a board and pour the juices into a large bowl.
  1. Let the roast cool slightly, then shred using two forks, meat claws or your hands.
  1. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and generously drizzle the pulled pork with your favourite ZEG Sauces and the remaining juice from cooking. Mix well and let it rest to absorb juices and flavours.
  1. Take a large fresh bun and place your favourite cheese (cheeses that pair well with pork include: blue, mozzarella and cheddar) on the bottom half of the bun. Add 1 cup of pulled pork on top of the cheese. Serve warm for a fantastically flavoured sandwich everyone will love! Enjoy!
