The word “roast” (used in its cooking form) originally meant “to cook by dry heat,” from the Old French word rostir “to roast, burn”.

The word then began an international language journey from Modern French: rôtir, to Old High German: rosten, to Middle Dutch: roosten, then settling as the English roast as we know it.

Now that you know the etymology of the word roast (which will only be helpful in pretentious circumstances), it’s time to get cooking by dry heat!

We have a fantastic recipe for you to try: Pulled Beef in ZEG Sauce.
